Awning rails. Some helpful information

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

Our Skovva awnings attach to a van via an awning rail. An awning rail is a long metal strip that is attached to the side, or sometimes the roof of the van. A lot of campervans come with a standard sized rail already attached. If you do not have an awning rail, there is a good chance that you can get one fitted.

There are several brands and styles of awning rail, but they all serve the same purpose. They are made to hold the long, rubber Keder strip that is sewn onto the edge of an awning. The core diameter of the keder strips vary from awning to awning, but most standard awning rails will fit a range of sizes from 4mm to 9mm core - Our keder is 6mm core.

We work closely with the lovely, knowledgeable folks at Camper Essentials in Devon, who can help you choose and order the right rail for your van. They supply beautifully packaged kits and really clear and easy to follow instructions on how to fit them, or if you'd prefer you can go to them or a local professional to have them fit it for you.

If you are unsure about the size of an existing rail, or whether you are able to fit a rail to your van, please do get in touch. We are always happy to help you to check and can talk you through what you need to know.
